GAMBARAN PEMAHAMAN KOTA SEHAT OLEH KELOMPOK MIDDLE CHILDHOOD
Abstract
Urbanization, which is the acceleration of growth in urban areas, brings several issues, especially related to health. Urbanization specifically affects the middle childhood age group, aged 6-12 years, undergoing rapid development in cognitive, physical, mental, and social aspects. Ensuring that the city where these children reside supports their optimal growth and development is crucial. This research aimed to identify children’s understanding and perception of a healthy city, and the factors influencing their health behavior. A qualitative study was conducted from September 2023 to October 2023 in Kampung Leles, Sleman Regency, DIY. The research involved 15 child participants aged 6-12 years. Data collection was performed through in-depth interviews, and data analysis was conducted using descriptive analysis. The findings of this study revealed that (1) The social environment influenced the understanding and behaviors shaping children’s characters; (2) The physical environment, facilities, and infrastructure affect the physical, social, and mental health of children; (3) Health promotion support from adults influences children’s motivation for healthy behavior. Therefore. Understanding children’s perspectives in assessing the urban environment where they live is crucial to comprehend their needs and challenges. This understanding adds a valuable perspective and serves as a strong foundation for stakeholders in the village to city government in designing relevant and effective programs and activities to enhance well-being and support optimal child development.
