Abstract

Diabetes Mellitus (DM) is a group of metabolic disorders characterized by elevated blood glucose levels or hyperglycemia resulting from a lack of insulin secretion, impaired insulin metabolism, or both. Things that might cause Diabetes Mellitus Self Management (SMDM) in the aspect of blood sugar monitoring is the lack of awareness of DM patients themselves. The purpose of this study was to obtain an in-depth understanding of the experiences of DM patients during blood glucose checks. The research design used in this study is a qualitative research using a phenomenological approach. Participants in this study were people with diabetes mellitus who visited the Jatiwarna Bekasi Health Center as many as 6 people, three men and three women. The results showed that ten sub themes emerged, namely: frequency, place, method, time, type, procedure, equipment, results, interpretation of results, and explanation of results. This category should be a concern for health workers for monitoring and evaluation of self-management carried out by DM sufferers.
