Abstract

Burnout syndrome experienced by nurses due to high mental workload could be fatal. Patient safety was jeopardized, and work accidents were possible. Other factors that needed to be considered included shifts and tenure. The purpose of this study was to analyze the effect of mental workload, shift, and tenure on burnout syndrome in nurses. The research was conducted in one of the hospitals in the Sidoarjo region from January to June 2024. This was a type of analytic observational research with a cross-sectional design. From a total population of 61 nurses, a sample of 53 nurses was taken using the proportional random sampling technique. The instruments used were the Maslach Burnout Inventory (MBI) questionnaire for burnout syndrome, the National Aeronautics and Space Administration Task Load Index (NASA-TLX) for mental workload, and questionnaire sheets to determine work shifts and tenure. The instruments were standardized, so there was no need for validity and reliability tests. Data analysis used the chi-square test and Spearman correlation test. Based on the research, it was concluded that burnout syndrome experienced by nurses at the X Hospital Inpatient Installation in 2024 was significantly influenced by mental workload (p-value= 0.000), shift (p-value= 0.022), and tenure (p-value= 0.002). It was recommended that the hospital improve supervision related to the implementation of the main duties and functions of nurses.
