Abstract

Anemia in adolescent girls in developing countries is around 53.7%, in Indonesia 18.4% of adolescents have anemia, while in West Java it is 26.4%. One way to overcome anemia in adolescents is to fortify food in the form of snacks and cookies. There are several micronutrients that are used together with iron to increase the absorption of nutrients including vitamin A, vitamin C, vitamin B12, and Vitamin B6. One of the fruits that is rich in vitamin C is guava, which is equivalent to 6 times the vitamin C content in oranges. Iron generally comes from animal protein, but there are also grains that contain iron, namely black sticky rice, in 100 grams of black sticky rice it contains 4 % daily iron requirement. The general purpose of this study was to analyze the difference in the effectiveness of the black sticky rice snack bar and guava juice on the increase in hemoglobin levels of adolescent girls.

The design of this research is analytic, using a quasi-experimental design with a pre and posttest approach with control group design. The sampling technique used was purposive sampling. The number of samples were 60 teenagers. The results showed that there was a significant increase in Hb levels between before and after giving the black sticky rice snack bar with a p value of <0.001, as well as taking guava juice. There was no significant difference in the increase in Hb levels between the provision of black sticky rice snack bar and guava juice with p value = 0.322. Snack bar tape black glutinous rice and guava juice can be used as an alternative to increase Hb levels in anemic adolescent girls.
