PARENTS' PREPARATION TO COMMUNICATE ABOUT RISK SEXUAL BEHAVIOR IN ADOLESCENTS: A QUALITATIVE STUDY

Abstract

One of the physical changes in adolescents is in the form of maturity in the reproductive system that affects adolescent sexual behavior. This needs attention because of the risk of sexual and reproductive health problems. This condition requires sex education for teenagers so that teenagers can be open in getting the right information. Parents as the closest people should be optimized to be a source of information for teenagers. This can be realized by establishing good communication between parents and adolescents in order to anticipate various problems caused by risky sexual behavior in adolescents. This study aims to identify the various preparations of parents in communicating with adolescents about risky sexual behavior. This research is a qualitative study with a narrative approach. Data collection was carried out through in-depth interviews with adolescent psychology experts and communication experts and there was triangulation of data on policy makers in terms of adolescent reproductive health. Data analysis by manual method through transcription, reduction, coding, categorization so as to form a theme and conclude. The results showed that there were eight aspects that parents must prepare in communicating with adolescents about risky sexual behavior, namely: knowledge of various components related to risky sexual behavior, confidence in communicating, closeness of parents and adolescents, recognizing adolescent characteristics, recognizing various sources of information, applying fitrah based education in child rearing, applying religious values ​​and mastering communication methods with teenagers. Aspects of self-confidence related to parental knowledge and communication methods with adolescents related to seven other aspects in preparing to communicate with adolescents about risky sexual behavior.
