Abstract

Leukemia is a malignancy that often occurs in children, especially those aged between 5 and 15 years. Patients with leukemia must get chemotherapy for a relatively long time. This results in many side effects, both physically and psychologically. Various studies to reduce the impact of chemotherapy have been carried out, but all of them are done separately for each aspect. Based on this, it is necessary to design an intervention to reduce the impact of chemotherapy on children with leukemia which is carried out comprehensively covering physical, psychological, social and spiritual aspects by combining play, eat, spiritual and acupressure. This study aims to analyze the effect of implementing these interventions on the quality of life of children hospitalized. One group pre-test-post test design was used in this study with a total sample of 31 people who were taken by consecutive sampling. Each respondent was given intervention for 4 times within a duration of 1 month. Quality of life was measured using the Pediatric Quality of Life (PedsQL) cancer module 3.0 and the results showed a difference in the mean score of quality of life for children (p value 0.001) between before and after treatment. The resulting conclusion is that play, eat, spiritual and acupressure interventions have a positive effect on the quality of children with leukemia so that they can be used as part of nursing actions.
