Abstract

Maternal and Child Health Books (MCH) are used as documentation and information media during pregnancy up to the age of five. This book has not been fully utilized. Encouragement is needed so that the MCH handbook can be utilized by pregnant women. This study aimed to determine the effect of family empowerment on increasing the utilization of the MCH handbook. The method used was a pre-experimental design The One Group Pretest Posttest. Empowerment is assessed by observation using a checklist. Locations in Karawang Regency and Bukittinggi City in 2020. Respondents are mothers, mothers-in-law, or pregnant women's sisters, with a sample of 60 people. Data analysis was carried out by paired t-test with Wilcoxon, Rank Spearman correlation test, and linear regression to explain the influence between variables. The results found that family empowerment affected the use of the MCH handbook, and the ability to protect risky pregnancies with p=0.000 r=0.751. From the modeling, it was found that increasing the utilization of the MCH handbook affected the family's knowledge of the MCH handbook and could increase the utilization of the MCH handbook in pregnant women (OR 5.5). It can be concluded that the family member empowerment training model can increase the utilization of the MCH handbook in pregnant women. This suggested training model can be considered as an alternative to increasing the utilization of MCH handbooks by pregnant women.
