EFEKTIVITAS SARI BUAH MULBERRY (Morus alba L) PADA PLAK GIGI SEBAGAI BAHAN ALTERNATIF PENGGANTI DISCLOSING SOLUTION

Abstract

The dental plaque plays an important role in the process of caries and periodontal tissue disease (Forest, 2005). The thin plaque is almost the same color as the teeth. Plaque cannot be seen with the naked eye unless it is colored with dyes. The world of dentistry developed a technique of staining plaque bacterial cells using a liquid disclosing solution. (Forest). Disclosing solutions in the market are available in liquid, tablet or powder form made from chemicals


Traditional materials can be used as alternatives to disclosing solutions. Traditional fruit contains red liquid. one of them is mulberry. Winarno (2002) states that the anthocyanin concentration from mulberry fruit has increased up to the 15th day to 544.8 mg / L.


This study intends to socialize the use of mulberry juice on the dental plaque as an alternative material to replace the closing solution. The research method uses a quasi-experimental design. Pre and post with Control Group Design. Hypothesis testing using the Wilcoxon Signed Ranks Test. In this study, the Wilcoxon Signed Ranks Test showed a p-value (0.813)> 0.05, meaning that the amount of plaque on the surface of the teeth was colored between those using Mulberry juice (Morus alba L.) and the control data disclosing solution was not different. Mulberry fruit (Morus alba L.) to be able to color dental plaque, which is 100%
